We are thrilled to announce our Student Profile of the Month!
Congratulations to Ayla Hartnell!
Ayla is employed through CVGT and is placed at Loddon Shire Council, where she is completing a BSB30120 Certificate III in Business Traineeship.
Below are the insights she shared about her training experience and how she has applied the knowledge she acquired to her professional life.
Q: What does your role entail?
A: I am a Business Trainee in the Corporate Directorate of the Shire Council, but I have had the opportunity to try things in other areas as well. My main tasks in the time I have been here include: Customer Service in reception on the phones and walk-ins to do with things like rates, animal registrations, and other matters. Placing purchase orders for uniforms and putting ads into local newspapers, scanning and filing property files, organising employee files, data input, setting up new systems, and creating work-place documents such as procedures, flyers, employment audits, and pamphlets.
Q: What skills have you gained through your traineeship that you can directly apply into your workplace?
A: A lot of the document creating, excel spreadsheet data formulas, and workplace communication units have become relevant to my every day work. It’s exciting when something I’ve learned on paper turns into a real life experience! It allows me to be more prepared for when things do happen, as I already have an idea on how to complete them.
Q: What aspects of your training have brought you the greatest enjoyment thus far?
A: The sense of accomplishment and fulfilment is probably my favourite part, because I know I am learning something that no matter where I am working, the training I am completing will be relevant to a much broader range of industries and businesses, not just the workplace I am at currently.
Q: What advice can you give anyone who is thinking about undertaking a traineeship?
A: Make sure to pace yourself and have good time management skills. These types of traineeships are largely self-paced to an extent, so you are in charge of how much you want to be achieving in the set time-frame. This makes it easier to juggle “work-life” and “school-life”. Personally, I find security and comfort in working a bit in front of schedule so if the work-life gets really busy, I have already allocated myself the spare time that I don’t have to study if time won’t allow for it, thus not falling behind in the school work.
Q: How did you find working and training together at the same time, is it beneficial?
A: Great! I get to practice the skills I have learned in the training, in real life scenarios. They work hand-in-hand, supporting each aspect of the traineeship.
Q: How has your traineeship experience influenced your short-term and long-term career goals?
A: I think in general, the traineeship has allowed me to have a look at a variety of different roles within a Council, and this has guided me into being able to know what jobs I would enjoy, and what jobs I wouldn’t. Thus, guiding me to be more driven towards what area and kind of role I want to work towards getting, and what I need to accomplish to get there.
Q: How did you find our Online Virtual training – is it something you would recommend?
A: Yes. Personally I live rurally, so having the opportunity to study and not having to travel is a real privilege and convenience for me, and for so many other students in my circumstance.
Q: Upon completion, do you plan to further your studies?
A:I would love to get a Diploma of Business, since I am already working towards being over half way there with a Certificate III in Business.
Q: Would you recommend Integrity?
A: Yes, I think it’s a great resource for rural students especially. As said before, the education given is highly relevant and informative. The structure is simple, neat, and also really easy to understand what is expected of you. The questions and activities are straightforward and well written, making learning easier to follow and complete.
It’s been fantastic watching Ayla progress through her traineeship and develop her skills in the workplace. We look forward to seeing where Ayla goes in the future, and wish her all the best.
